Get better answers

This page explains how you improve a reply that missed your goal. It also explains when you start a new session instead. Start with Write a good message if you have not read it.

Correct the agent instead of starting over

Do not rewrite your question from scratch. Send a short correction into the same session.

The agent keeps the whole history of the session. It already holds your first question and every result it found. A correction builds on that work. A new session throws it away.

Say plainly what is wrong

Name the problem and the fix you want. Write both in plain words.

Useful corrections:

  • "You checked the wrong cluster. Check the production cluster."
  • "Too long. Answer in three bullet points."
  • "You did not answer the question. Which pod restarted?"
  • "Use the last 24 hours, not the last hour."

Point at an earlier message

Quote the exact text you mean. This removes any doubt about which sentence you want fixed.

  1. Select the text with your mouse in any message. A small Reply button appears above your selection.
  2. Click Reply. The selected text moves into a box at the top of the message box.
  3. Type your correction in the message box.
  4. Press Enter.

The agent receives your text with the quote in front of it. To drop the quote before you send, click the cross beside it.

Keep one topic in one session

A session works best on one topic. The agent uses the whole history for every new reply. A second topic in the same session adds facts that do not apply.

Start a new session when any of these is true:

  • You move to another system, incident, or question.
  • The session is long and the agent returns to points you already settled.
  • You want a clean answer without the earlier context.

Your old session stays in the session panel. Nothing is lost when you start a new one.

Set your preferences once

Your profile holds the preferences that shape the replies to you. Set it once instead of repeating the same instruction in every message. See Personalize Hyground.

A saved change applies from your next message, in any session.

Keep the fields short and exact. Vague or conflicting details reduce the quality of the answers.

What comes next?

A better answer is not always a correct answer. See Check the agent's work.
